A late cameo from Wiaan Mulder (31*) ensured they finished with a flourish, setting a challenging target for the hosts.
In reply, Australia looked to be in a strong position at 0-60. However, the game was turned on its head by Maharaj. The veteran left-armer delivered a spell for the ages, taking five wickets to trigger a spectacular collapse. The hosts lost 6-29 in a frantic period, effectively ending their hopes of victory.
Australian captain Mitch Marsh stood tall amidst the ruins, scoring an impressive 88, but he was fighting a losing battle. The rest of the batting order offered little resistance, and Australia was eventually dismissed for 198, giving the understrength Proteas a massive confidence boost.
