South Korea has ascended to 17th place in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings, achieving its highest position in over three years. This advancement comes on the heels of the national team’s commendable performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.
In the rankings update, South Korea moved up two spots from their previous standing, reaching 17th for the first time since June 2023. Within Asia, the team ranks fourth, trailing Japan, North Korea, and Australia, which hold the fifth, 12th, and 15th spots respectively. Notably, China has dropped to 18th place.
The South Korean team’s journey to the bronze medal included a 2-0 defeat to host nation Japan in the semifinals, followed by a 1-0 victory against China in the third-place match. This triumph marked South Korea’s first Asian Games bronze in eight years and their first win over China in 11 years.
Globally, Spain continues to lead the FIFA women’s world rankings, with the United States, Germany, England, and Japan rounding out the top five. FIFA plans to release its final women’s world rankings for the year on December 7.
