President Donald Trump has unveiled a blueprint for a new phase of economic warfare, a comprehensive strategy that ropes in NATO to target both Russia and China simultaneously. The plan, shared on Truth Social, is designed to choke off the financial resources fueling the war in Ukraine through a series of bold, interconnected moves.
The first part of the blueprint is a conditional sanctioning of Russia. Trump has agreed to impose “major Sanctions” but only after the entire NATO alliance commits to a full boycott of Russian oil. This move aims to close the loopholes that have allowed Moscow to continue earning significant revenue from energy sales to some U.S. allies.
The second, more audacious part, involves confronting China. Trump has proposed that NATO should act as a unified economic force and levy tariffs of 50% to 100% on all Chinese imports. This is a direct consequence of the deepening Xi-Putin relationship and China’s role in purchasing Russian petroleum, which has softened the blow of Western sanctions.
Trump presents this two-front economic assault as the only path to a quick victory. “If NATO does as I say, the war will end quickly,” he declared, positioning his plan as the ultimate solution. This strategy, however, would represent a massive escalation, risking a global trade war in an attempt to solve a regional military conflict.
