President Lee to Chair First National Security Council Meeting Since Taking Office

This NSC meeting follows closely after National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac returned from a four-day visit to the United States. During his trip, Wi engaged in talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other senior officials, focusing on trade negotiations and broader alliance issues.
Amid ongoing trade discussions, US President Donald Trump recently announced that Washington would impose 25 percent tariffs on South Korean goods starting August 1. The announcement extends the initial tariff deadline, providing additional time for both countries to negotiate terms.
The upcoming NSC meeting is expected to address these trade challenges alongside broader security concerns, reinforcing South Korea’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with the United States.
