South Korea is taking significant steps to bolster Mongolia’s cultural heritage conservation efforts through an educational partnership aimed at developing future experts in the field. This collaboration has facilitated the establishment of advanced conservation and digital documentation facilities at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, where officials from both nations have recently assessed the progress.
Since 2020, Kongju National University has spearheaded this initiative, which has led to the creation of Mongolia’s pioneering Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. The program encompasses several key components, including curriculum development, the enhancement of laboratory infrastructure, faculty training, and the creation of educational materials in Mongolian.
A crucial aspect of the program is its focus on empowering local educators by training Mongolian faculty members. This effort is designed to ensure the program’s sustainability, with the long-term objective of fostering self-sufficient educational practices within Mongolia.
Through this collaboration, South Korea aims not only to strengthen Mongolia’s capacity in cultural heritage conservation but also to cultivate a long-lasting educational partnership. By enabling Mongolia to independently manage its educational programs, the initiative seeks to enhance the nation’s ability to preserve its rich cultural legacy.
