Türkiye has expressed its readiness to facilitate new peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, according to Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov. During a statement in Kazan, Ushakov highlighted that Turkish authorities have confirmed their willingness to offer a venue for negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This development comes after discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Ushakov remarked that recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian soil have complicated the chances of a direct meeting between President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite these challenges, Türkiye has consistently maintained a balanced diplomatic stance since the conflict began, ensuring open communication with both Moscow and Kyiv. Previous negotiations hosted in Istanbul, while not culminating in a final agreement, were significant diplomatic undertakings that brought the two sides closer to dialogue.
Ankara continues to emphasize de-escalation and peaceful resolution as top priorities, advocating for sustained diplomatic engagement to address the conflict. Recent high-level interactions have centered on exploring avenues to end the war and ease regional tensions. Türkiye’s role as a mediator remains crucial, promoting renewed negotiations and a diplomatic path forward.
In addition to Türkiye’s efforts, Ushakov mentioned that Russia is expecting updates from the United States following discussions held at the G7 summit. He also confirmed that senior American officials are scheduled to visit Russia soon. As the conflict continues to impact global politics and security, Türkiye’s mediation efforts are seen as vital in the quest for a peaceful resolution.
