LG Innotek and Japan’s TDK have joined forces to advance the development of next-generation vision and tactile sensing modules, catering to the expanding fields of robotics and physical AI. This strategic collaboration merges LG Innotek’s strengths in optical and precision engineering with TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technology. The combined expertise is set to enhance the capabilities of robotic systems, making them more attuned to their environments.
One of the initial outcomes of this partnership is a vision sensing module, which is expected to debut in 2027. This module will integrate an inertial sensor, capable of processing various types of data including visual, motion, direction, and sound. This integration aims to enable robotic systems to interpret and react to their surroundings with greater accuracy while minimizing image distortion from movement.
In addition to vision sensing, LG Innotek and TDK are working on a tactile sensing module that mimics the function of human skin. This technology will allow robots to perceive touch and pressure through their extremities and bodies, significantly improving their ability to interact with objects and environments. Like the vision sensing module, the tactile system is slated for completion by 2027.
LG Innotek anticipates that this partnership will bolster its position in the burgeoning robotics market.
