In the race, France’s Muhammad Abdallah Kounta secured the silver medal with a time of 44.40 seconds, while Jonas Phijffers from the Netherlands took bronze, setting a national record at 44.41 seconds. Hudson-Smith, who has trained at the stadium since childhood and grew up in the Birmingham area, expressed that winning on his home track held special significance for him.
The event also saw success for Britain in the women’s 400m hurdles. Emily Newnham claimed a silver medal with a personal-best time of 53.33 seconds, showcasing a strong finish. Slovakia’s Emma Zapletalova took gold, clocking in at 52.91 seconds, while Portugal’s Fatoumata Binta Diallo earned bronze, also achieving a national record with her time of 53.55 seconds.
