Israel has unleashed a powerful wave of airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, after its military determined that the Houthi rebels had, for the first time, used a missile with a cluster bomb warhead against it. This dangerous development prompted a swift and severe military retaliation.
The Israeli bombardment targeted a range of strategic assets in Sanaa, including a military compound that houses the presidential palace, a significant fuel depot, and two power stations. The goal was to degrade the Houthis’ ability to launch further sophisticated attacks.
The strikes inflicted a heavy toll, with Houthi officials reporting that six people were killed and 86 were wounded. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Houthis are now paying a “very heavy price” and that his country will not hesitate to strike those who threaten its security.
Defence Minister Israel Katz further claimed that the Houthi presidential palace was “destroyed” in the raid. While this remains unverified, the message from Israel is clear: the use of more dangerous weaponry by its adversaries will be met with disproportionately stronger force.
